How To Keep The Weight Off During Thanksgiving

Whether you’re ready or not, the holidays are officially here! With Thanksgiving being next week, I know we can all practically smell the pumpkin pies. You’re probably thinking, “How do I even enjoy Thanksgiving without ruining all my hard work?” 

We have a few tips for you! 

1) Enjoy the day

Before we get into any real tips, this is the most important one. Do not spend your day counting calories or stressing over what you should or should not be eating. Thanksgiving is a time to be spent with friends and family so ENJOY IT! Eat the pumpkin pie, and have your grandmothers famous mashed potatoes. One day of eating “bad” will not ruin your progress. Being healthy is a lifestyle. 

2) Balance is key

Make sure your plate has a balance. Try to get more protein and vegetables on your plate than carbs. Do you notice anytime you eat a big meal you’re hungry again a couple hours later? This is because you are eating too many carbs and not enough protein. Fill up on the turkey and your body will thank you. 

3) Stay hydrated

Water. Water. Water. Should I say it again? Ok, water. The human body is composed of about 60% water. Drinking it throughout the day keeps your body functioning properly and will help keep you full. Also, if you’re drinking water then you’re not wasting calories on soft drinks. Which means more room for pumpkin pie, right? 

4) Walk

 Instead of stretching out on the couch after the big meal, go for a walk. Not only is it a great way for your food to digest, but it is easy exercise. You can even grab your family members to go with you. 

5) Get back on track

When all the Thanksgiving meals are over, jump right back in to your routine! Don’t pull the typical, “I’ll start back next week.” Stay motivated and you won’t even notice any unwanted pounds from Thanksgiving!
