Michael Dubois, BS, NSCA-CSCS
Brief bio: I was born in Iowa City, Iowa, but I moved to Mobile, Alabama when I was 3. I spent part of my childhood in Mobile and the rest through high school in Daphne, Alabama. After I graduated high school, I moved to Davenport, Iowa where I attended St. Ambrose University. I graduated with a Baccalaureate Science degree in Exercise Science. I am in my third year in the Doctorate of Physical Therapy program at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
My love of fitness began in the spring of my eighth grade year while playing football when we began weight-lifting after school as a team. I was very involved in athletics while in high school - I played football and soccer and ran track. Throughout my high school athletics, I developed experience in power lifting, Olympic lifting, speed and agility training, plyometrcs, endurance and interval training, as well as flexibility training. I began researching physical therapy as a career option in my junior year and acquired observation hours. While studying at St. Ambrose University, I further increased my knowledge and experience in exercise testing, technique, and prescription, as well as an understanding of special considerations for exercise. During my time at St. Ambrose University, I played soccer and football and began training for triathlons. After I graduated, I became a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the NSCA and have been working as a personal trainer part-time since June 2011. While pursuing physical therapy at UAB, I have enhanced my knowledge and practical experiences in the classroom and in the clinic as well as working as a personal trainer. Personal Mission Statement: I believe every person has a story. My goal is to listen and find out every client’s goals and how we can achieve those goals. By providing them with knowledge and guidance, the client will be empowered to become autonomous in developing their healthy lifestyle. |
